UCI Transportation Center
The UCI Transportation Center, Step 6, Parking Structure #4 is a significant campus development, providing approximately 2,043 parking stalls. Both the parking structure and the accompanying surge building reflect the campus's neoclassical design ethos, using traditional materials and Renaissance proportional systems, including the "Golden Section." These buildings demonstrate a classical "Base-Middle-Top" architectural structure, fully integrating into the aesthetic of the university.
The main entrances of the parking structure, for both vehicles and pedestrians, are distinctly marked by a large-scale woven stainless-steel scrim, enhancing visibility and access. To soften its visual impact from East Peltason and the ring mall, the structure is screened by a buffer of conifers and large canopy trees.
Additionally, the project includes a four-story Surge Classroom and Maintenance Building, incorporating specific design elements to achieve LEED certification for sustainability and environmental performance.
