University of Tampa Thomas Parking Deck Expansion - Tampa, FL
TRC Parkitects is proud to deliver a unique and forward-thinking project that combines functionality, sustainability, and aesthetic harmony. This innovative precast concrete structure seamlessly integrates classrooms, lecture halls, offices, a café, and parking to meet the growing needs of the campus community.
The development added 405 parking spaces to the existing 775, while also creating 50,000 square feet of space for academic and social use. These spaces are strategically positioned both above and below the parking levels to maximize efficiency and usability.
Connectivity and convenience were central to the design, with the structure linking to an existing parking garage across the street via multiple bay bridges. The project utilizes an existing ramp for circulation while reworking entry and exit patterns to improve traffic flow. A three-bay "park-on-bridge" concept at Level 3 further enhances functionality, providing additional parking capacity without compromising the design.
To enhance the visitor experience, the parking layout was redesigned to include separate visitor entries and parking areas, complete with access controls for improved security. The project was executed on a fast-track design-build schedule, achieving design completion in just three months and construction within five months, ensuring a timely and efficient delivery.
The facility also includes modern amenities to support sustainability and student needs, such as electric vehicle charging stations, dedicated parking for fuel-efficient vehicles, and abundant motorcycle and scooter parking. Gated access controls ensure security for vehicles and residents alike. The architectural features, including brick accents, colored precast, and campus-specific detailing, create a cohesive visual connection with the surrounding environment.
TRC Parkitects delivers innovative, sustainable, and student-focused solutions that not only enhance infrastructure but also align with the campus's mission and aesthetic identity.
